We were able to visit the Santa Cruz beach Boardwalk earlier this month. Although we got a little backlogged on the update for personal reasons, we were able to snap some photos of the construction site for the new entrance area that’s being built this coming summer, and we’d still like to be able to share that content with you guys. Please enjoy the following rather brief and photo heavy update on the 2017 construction at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk

Although we will go into some specifics, this update is largely just to show the scale and progress of the 12 million dollar project that’s going on, so it will be rather photo heavy as mentioned.
Slatter is the company handling this project, a local company based in Santa Cruz that primarily handles construction in the area.
Two attractions are closed during this construction: Pirate Ship and Double shot. Pirate Ship seems to be getting extensive work including a revamped queue, ride parts, and detailing. Double Shot appears to also be getting a bit smaller scale maintenance, specifically on the ride vehicle.
As you can see, the flooring for the area around Pirate Ship is slightly different, and it is actually over the sand beach.
This is what the flooring on the main construction site looks like. It features a lot more steel reinforcement.
It’s hard to tell, but if you look closely, this construction actually runs deeper than you think. Remember the walk through haunt, Fright Walk, is getting a major revamp. This unfortunately is under ground and out of view.
Here’s another good angle of the sheer scale of this project. That 12 million dollars had to go somewhere…
If you look closely, it appears the steel frame work for pillars has been constructed directly on the level of the platform Undertow sits on. This could be part of the front entrance project, or less likely, those rumors of new flat rides coming to the park on an extended upper deck coming to fruition.
Speaking of which, here’s a look own from that upper deck at some of the material being used in this process.
We’ll make sure to be checking back at the Boardwalk as construction progresses. Right now things are still in the early going and it’s a little hard to tell what’s what, but we look forward to seeing this project completed.
