Dinosaurland- Djurs Sommerland’s huge success

Dinosaurland is one of Djurs Sommerland’s biggest investments yet, and like the previous investment: Tigeren, is setting up a bright future for the park. The area opened at the end of April 2022 and we were lucky enough to be there on the opening day to take you guys around and see the brand new area. You can read all about the experience in detail here. However, a couple of highlights for you all below!

T-Rex Family Coaster

A brand new Mack powered coaster whizzed for the first time with guests around the track at the end of April 2022. This is personally my favourite Mack powered coaster I’ve ever ridden. Reasons for this are the theming, animatronic dinosaurs and pacing of the layout. It all fits really perfectly together.

Dino Xpedition

Accompanying the shiny Mack powered coaster and a huge playground area for kids, a brand new tracked ride also opened for the first time with Djurs Sommerland. This was the park’s first attempt at a tracked/dark ride combo and it has to be said they did a really great job. The park has unfortunately experienced a number of issues with effects and onboard audio but hopes to fix it for the new season!

The park at Halloween

Djurs Sommerland, being located in Denmark, has shorter a season than most European parks. The colder winters mean that the park only opens from the end of April until September. However, they do reopen the park for a week in October to celebrate Halloween. What’s more, the decorations around the park are absolutely insane. The Halloween event trumps a lot of other events at parks around Europe. They also have two scare mazes, one aimed for older age groups and the other family friendly. Here’s some of our favourite pictures from the Halloween event last year.

What’s new for 2023 at Djurs Sommerland

Djurs Sommerland will be opening its doors on the 29th April this year for the first rush of park guests, who will all be eager to see the new developments.

For 2023, Djurs Sommerland will be expanding Dinosaurland even further. There will be an addition of 3 brand new attractions! We’re so excited to see these come to life later this year! Here’s what you can look forward to:

SpinOsaurus

The major new attraction and the one most people will be waiting for this season is the brand new Zamperla Disko coaster. This will be themed as ‘SpinOsaurus’. Riders will be able to travel and spin along the spine of a humongous dinosaur!

Motorbike Derby

Families can look forward to a brand new technical park flat ride, which will be themed as the ‘Motorbike Derby’. The cars of the attraction will be branded with the staple ‘Dino Inc’ theming on the side. This is the same branding which is used for the Dinosaur Tours.

Fossilvaskeren

The ‘Fossil Cleaner’ is the third and final new attraction for Djurs Sommerland’s 2023 season. This attraction will blend in the classic ‘Dino Inc’ theming. Furthermore, the ride is a spin on the classic teacups. However, riders will instead spin around in a fossil cleaning machine. We’re really looking forward to seeing the theming on this one!

2023 Park Map

Dinosaurland has been Djurs Sommerland’s biggest project to date. Crazily, this means that the park will be bigger (and perhaps better) than ever. If you’ve been waiting to see the park’s map for 2023, here’s your chance! Below you can see the brand new map for this year.

The best accommodation near to Djurs Sommerland

Djurs Sommerland does not (yet!) have its own hotel! This means you’ll need to look for a nearby accommodation. Importantly, if you’re heading via public transport we would recommend staying in Aarhus city centre and taking the bus. However, if you’re renting a car, then it’s a great idea to consider staying in the following properties:

Danhostel Ronde

Our top recommendation for a nearby accommodation is Danhostel Ronde. Conveniently, this accommodation is only 15 minutes drive away from the gates to Djurs Sommerland. Despite the name, this property does have private rooms and is more like a hotel than a hostel. However, there is access to kitchens as well if you’d like to cook your own food.

Furthermore, Dan Hostel offers private rooms with individual beds and ensuite bathrooms. There is also a plentiful breakfast offered each morning. This is the perfect way to start your day with an amazing view onto the bay and the waters from the property.

Dan Hostel Ronde was a great place to stay and the location was perfect for a day in the park. We really liked the cosy atmosphere of the hostel and everyone was super friendly. Here are some of our favourite photos.

Havet 16 Bonnerup Strand

This holiday apartment is located a bit further away from Djurs Sommerland but has a beautiful location. The park is about 20 minutes drive away and the property 45 minutes from Aarhus airport. What’s more, this apartment is located right on the coastline and offers beautiful views onto the Danish coast.

The apartment is fully furnished with bedroom, living room, kitchen and bathroom. The living room also has a smart TV which you can connect your Disney+/Netflix to. However, my favourite thing about this apartment was being able to admire the stunning views onto the coastline! The views and the sunsets from this place were absolutely incredible!

Here are a few of our favourite pictures from this apartment.
