Another sunny day in Southern California! It was time for some Universal Studios Hollywood again. It seemed like the park was anticipating big crowds today, luckily lines remained short and we had a wonderful time. Sadly the Walking Dead did not soft open today as planned, but we’ll be back with more Walking Dead stuff soon!
– Recently our images have popped up on other sites and forums, awesome that our coverage spreads, not so awesome that no one mentioned where they got the images from. We are totally fine with our audience using our images, BUT ONLY IF credit is given to californiacoasterkings.com. Thank you! –
The Walking Dead Attraction entrance is awesome! I have personally yet to go inside, but I will be back shortly as today’s planned soft openings were canceled. I’m looking forward to walking through Universal Studios Hollywood’s newest attraction. It’s still amazing to me that they opened this in addition to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter this year.
Speaking of the Walking Dead Attraction, it’s now on the Studio Directories as well!
For those who haven’t heard yet, The Secret Life of Pets is showing in theaters starting July 8th. Appropriately the park added this giant photo-op in New York Street. Perhaps creating hype for a possible ride based on the franchise? 😛
This summer in the Universal Plaza we find a bunch of new photo ops. Last year was the year of Fast and Furious stuff. This year we have Scooby Doo, Transformers, and Kubo Two Strings.
An indication of the park preparing for crowds is a 10-show WaterWorld schedule for the day. Can’t imagine what it’ll look like tomorrow as the park is open 2 hours longer tomorrow AND it’s the 4th of July weekend.
Let’s move on to some Halloween Horror Nights construction over at the Jurassic Park queue.
And on the Back Lot, where it appears a maze is being constructed where lines were housed last year.
And of course there’s a large new maze being constructed where Crimson Peak stood last year.
These pictures were taken from the Studio Tour tram. A few notes regarding the park’s main attraction, there are several new signs in line stating the tour lasts 60 to 70 minutes. And on board some new footage is being used, including a video from Illumination Entertainment and The Mindy Project.
Moving on to some construction at the studios. Next to Transformers The Ride- 3D, it seems like preparation for construction is going on. This may just be for Halloween Horror Nights, though this spot is rumored to house the possible new Secret Life of Pets ride.
Look what we spot far away near the Metro sets?
The new sound stage walls have gone vertical!
The studios/park are creating many new sound stages on this side of the lot, as well as further away on the back lot for theme-park expansion on the Lower Lot.
Of course we had to ride Forbidden Journey a bunch of times again. It’s just insane to me how fast that line moves, keeping the lines relatively short all day.
Since these switchbacks are hardly ever used, the vending cart has been taken out. I’m curious to see if it’ll ever return. I’ve only seen it being used twice. Once during soft openings, once during a preview event. Never after the actual opening, even when I braved a 2+ hour line for the ride.
And that was it for our quick update of Universal Studios Hollywood. Here’s a good night shot of the newly lit up Universal globe at the entrance to the park!
Thanks for checking out this Universal Studios Hollywood Update! We’ll be back soon for The Walking Dead Attraction. 😀 Make sure to check out yesterday’s Six Flags Magic Mountain Update as well as our look at Python Plunge that opened at Six Flags Hurricane Harbor Los Angeles yesterday!
