The Joker Update #6

DSC_0088 (Large)After the recent behind the scenes construction tour, we had to come back as soon as we could to see the progress on this world class coaster in the making. There has been much track work done since our last visit, including the completion of the world’s first step up under flip , and the pace really seems to be picking up as we inch closer to opening day.

Recently our images have popped up on other sites and forums, awesome that our coverage spreads, not so awesome that no one mentioned where they got the images from. We are totally fine with our audience using our images, BUT ONLY IF credit is given to californiacoasterkings.com. Thank you!

The parking lot is full of track and cross beams, even more so than usual, with what seems to be the natural continuation of the layout i.e. the elements after the stall.DSC_0121 (Large)

Look! We aren’t the only ones who abbreviate Discovery Kingdom to DK. The writing on the track also shows its number (the order in which it’s placed), and whether it’s the right or left rail, just in case someone is colorblind. 😛IMG_0437

Wow, that skyline is even prettier with the purple and green highlights.DSC_0055 (Large)

Moving into the park, the pre-lift of course has been completed, but is still looking like one of the best pre-lift’s out there, with a variety of legitimate drops, hills and turns.DSC_0099 (Large)

The long since completed lift hill has yet to have its chain installed, but the staircase and railing are complete.DSC_0092 (Large)

We may as well take a few more seconds to appreciate the completed drop again, as it is just drop dead gorgeous.DSC_0110 (Large)

At this point, all of the topper pieces have been installed, with no paint for where the running or side friction (inside) wheels will make contact, in an attempt to prevent fading.DSC_0069 (Large)

During our last chance to lay eyes on the magnificently mad Step-Up Under Flip, it still has some work to be done. Now, the entire inversion is complete including the banked turn and drop leading out of it.DSC_0116 (Large)DSC_0109 (Large)

The banking on this element is nuts, it’s going to be incredible! Right into a left turnaround, invert, and then be dumped out into a lateral drop out of the turn. Crazy stuff.DSC_0065 (Large)DSC_0062 (Large)

In contrast the animation, it almost looks as though the turn out of the inversion is slightly overbanked rather than a straight 90 degrees, we’d say more like 95-100 if we had to guess. RMC sure likes to leave their surprises. They did with Twisted Colossus, and they’ve already fooled us with the pre-lift here on The Joker.DSC_0073 (Large)DSC_0071 (Large)

As if one inversion wasn’t enough work on the Zero G Stall has started and when you’re reading this, it may have been completed already.DSC_0060 (Large)

When we arrived at the park, the stall was about a quarter completed, with hardly any inverted track installed. By the time we were leaving more than half of the inverted track was installed, and the stall was really taking shape.DSC_0088 (Large)

All of the steel cross beams and connectors have been placed for this element and some, which is why it was able to be installed so quickly.DSC_0100 (Large)

As far as the element itself, it’s a very large stall, more so than the Top Gun on Twisted Colossus, so it will provide some exceptional floating hang time, as well as some laterals during the transitions in and out of it.DSC_0117 (Large)DSC_0119 (Large)

Overall, some tremendous progress has been made in recent days, even recent hours. It seems as though RMC is looking to hire some temporary workers, if they haven’t already just based on the amount of track and connectors in the lot as well as how much faster things have been getting done. As a result, construction is really going to kick into full gear, and we’ll be there to cover it!DSC_0116 (Large)
