Wedding season led us to Oklahoma City, prompting a long-overdue visit to the underrated Frontier City. Despite being the smallest Six Flags Park, it holds a special charm with legendary coasters and a cohesive atmosphere that feels infused with local pride.

A Day at Frontier City

Our primary goal was to ride Diamondback, a coaster we missed on our last visit. This aero shuttle loop has been a marquee attraction since 1994, and it felt great to finally experience it after our previous attempts hindered by COVID restrictions.

However, our excitement was met with a hiccup; the ride was experiencing slow cycles, which led to some anxious moments. Would we get to ride it before heading to a wedding? Thankfully, patience paid off, and we managed to get our rides in before leaving.

The Thrill of the Ride

While Diamondback delivered some thrills, we found the legroom to be a bit cramped and the ride not as smooth as we hoped. After three rides, we were left a bit sore but satisfied. The low crowd levels added to the experience, allowing us to walk onto everything without long waits.

We also explored Steel Lasso, another family-friendly ride with a unique western theme. It was a surprise gem that we hadn’t fully appreciated during our previous visits.

A Touch of History

After Steel Lasso, we rode Silver Bullet, a looping star coaster that has a rich history, having traveled the German fair circuit since 1978. It was fascinating to see how this ride paved the way for future coaster designs.

“This was the debut of the track system that would become a standard for Schwarzkopf coasters.” — Alex

Riding Silver Bullet was a nostalgic experience, and while some transitions felt rougher than expected, it brought back memories of my childhood visits to similar rides.

Reflection

As we wrapped up our day at Frontier City, we couldn’t help but appreciate the charm of these lesser-known parks. They may not boast the newest attractions, but they offer a unique experience filled with history and character. It’s a reminder that sometimes, the best adventures are found off the beaten path.
